Stealth Hitch Active Wiring Package Installation Overview for the Kia Telluride (2023- 25)
Time Commitment: Typically 1–2 additional hours in addition to hitch installation time
The Stealth Hitch active wiring package for the Kia Telluride is the most complete trailer wiring option available for customers who want their vehicle to tow the way Kia intended. Unlike a basic passive trailer wiring harness, which mainly provides power for trailer lights, the active wiring package uses OEM Hyundai/Kia electronics to communicate directly with the Telluride’s factory towing systems.
That OEM integration is the key benefit. When a trailer is connected, the vehicle can recognize that it is actively towing and adjust vehicle systems accordingly. Depending on vehicle configuration, this may allow the Telluride to support features such as Tow Mode activation, trailer-aware stability and braking logic, parking sensor and rear cross-traffic system adjustments, intelligent power management, and electric trailer brake output through a fully functional 7-way trailer connector.
For customers towing campers, enclosed trailers, boats, larger utility trailers, or trailers equipped with electric brakes, the active harness is a substantial upgrade over a standard 4-flat trailer wiring system. Rather than simply powering trailer lights, the active harness allows the vehicle and trailer to function together as a more complete towing system.
The included 7-way connector supports:
-
Trailer brake controllers
-
Trailer battery charging
-
Running lights
-
Brake lights
-
Turn signals
-
Auxiliary trailer power functions
The Stealth active wiring package also includes a 4-flat adapter for compatibility with smaller trailers, bike racks, cargo carriers, and other accessories that only require a standard flat-4 trailer connection.
Installation is significantly more involved than a standard passive trailer wiring system because the active harness integrates directly into the Telluride’s factory electronics and rear cargo area wiring systems. Multiple rear cargo area trim panels, storage compartments, threshold trim pieces, and interior access panels must be carefully removed to access the factory towing connectors and wiring channels inside the vehicle.
A factory-style wiring harness is then routed from underneath the vehicle through the cargo floor using sealed OEM-style grommet connections to help protect the vehicle interior from moisture and debris intrusion. Inside the cargo area, the harness connects directly to factory Kia towing and auxiliary power connectors located behind the driver-side rear interior panels.
A dedicated trailer control module is mounted inside the rear cargo compartment and connected to the vehicle’s factory electronics. Proper grounding, fuse installation, connector placement, and wiring routing are all critical to ensure reliable trailer communication and safe long-term operation of the towing system.
Because this system includes a fully functional 7-way trailer connector, additional testing is required to verify proper operation of:
-
Brake lights
-
Turn signals
-
Running lights
-
12-volt auxiliary power
-
Ground circuits
-
Electric trailer brake output
Once testing is complete, all wiring is secured and protected from heat, moisture, and road debris before the interior trim panels and cargo area components are carefully reinstalled. The 7-way connector is then mounted directly to the hitch assembly for a clean, factory-style appearance and reliable long-term towing performance.
