Subaru Crosstrek Hitch Installation Overview

(Excluding Wilderness Models)

Towing Capacity: 3500 lbs Tongue Weight 525 Pounds

Time Commitment: Typically up to 1 hour

Hitch installation on the 2024+ Subaru Crosstrek is a relatively streamlined process because the hitch mounts directly to the vehicle’s factory frame rails without requiring removal of the rear bumper fascia or exhaust system.

Installation begins by accessing the factory mounting points located inside the rear frame rails. Factory rubber plugs are removed to expose the mounting locations, and access holes in the frame are enlarged as needed to allow the hitch mounting hardware to pass through the enclosed frame rails.

Because the Crosstrek uses enclosed frame rails, specialized fishwire techniques are used to guide carriage bolts and reinforcement spacers into position inside the frame. These components are carefully routed through the frame rails and aligned with the hitch mounting holes before the hitch is raised into place.

The hitch is then lifted into position and secured to the frame using high-grade mounting hardware. Depending on minor manufacturing tolerances between vehicles, additional spacers may be used during installation to ensure proper hitch leveling and alignment against the frame rails.

Once aligned, all mounting hardware is torqued to manufacturer specifications to ensure proper clamping force and secure attachment to the vehicle structure.

One advantage of the Crosstrek design is that the installation can typically be completed without removing major bumper components or lowering the exhaust system, helping reduce installation complexity while still providing a strong, frame-mounted hitch solution.

After installation is complete, the hitch fitment is inspected to verify proper alignment, secure mounting, and clean overall appearance.
