Telluride with Tow Pkg. (2020-2022) Flat 4 Wiring Installation Overview
Adding trailer wiring to the Kia Telluride allows the vehicle to safely power trailer lights for brake signals, turn signals, and running lights. The installation begins in the engine bay, where the vehicle’s battery is temporarily disconnected to protect the electrical system while the wiring harness is installed.
From there, we move to the rear of the vehicle and remove a small plastic shroud beneath the driver-side portion of the bumper. This provides access to the Telluride’s factory wiring connection point. The vehicle is designed with a plug-and-play port for trailer wiring, so the custom harness simply connects directly into the OEM wiring system without cutting or splicing factory wires.
Once connected, a small electronic module (often called a converter box) is securely mounted to the body of the vehicle using high-strength adhesive. This module regulates the electrical signals coming from the vehicle to ensure the trailer lights operate correctly without interfering with the vehicle’s sensitive electronics.
The trailer wiring connector is then routed neatly across the rear of the vehicle and secured near the hitch receiver. We secure all wiring with cable ties so it stays protected from road debris, heat, and moving components.
After the wiring is secured, the panels removed earlier are reinstalled, the battery connection is restored, and a protective dust cover is placed on the trailer connector to prevent corrosion. The finished installation provides a clean, reliable 4-pin trailer wiring connection for towing small trailers, bike rack lighting kits, or cargo carriers with auxiliary lighting.
