Subaru Ascent Hidden Hitch Installation Overview

Towing Capacity: 5000 lbs Tongue Weight: 750 lbs

Time Commitment: Up to 2 hours

Hidden hitch installation on the Subaru Ascent is a more involved installation because the rear bumper fascia and factory bumper beam must be removed in order to position the hitch behind the rear bumper structure for a cleaner, more integrated appearance.

Installation begins by removing multiple fasteners, splash guards, wheel well trim fasteners, and lower fascia retainers from underneath the vehicle and inside the rear wheel wells. Interior access panels near the taillights are then removed to access additional fascia mounting hardware hidden behind the rear cargo trim.

Once the mounting hardware is removed, the rear bumper fascia is carefully separated from the vehicle while disconnecting any factory wiring or rear bumper sensor connections attached to the fascia. The fascia is then set aside to allow access to the factory rear bumper beam.

The factory bumper beam is removed from the vehicle frame rails so the hidden hitch can be installed in its place. During installation, a small portion of the bumper mounting flange is reshaped to allow the hitch to sit flush against the vehicle structure and maintain proper bumper alignment once reassembled.

The hidden hitch is then raised into position and secured directly to the factory mounting points using high-grade hardware torqued to manufacturer specifications. Factory wiring harnesses that were attached to the original bumper beam are transferred to the hitch and secured into place to maintain proper routing and protection.

One of the major advantages of the hidden hitch design is that the receiver opening is largely concealed behind the removable factory hitch access panel in the rear bumper. When the hitch is not in use, the panel can typically be reinstalled to help maintain a cleaner, more factory-style appearance compared to many traditional exposed receiver hitches.

Once installation is complete, the bumper fascia, splash guards, wheel well trim, and all removed fasteners and electrical connections are carefully reinstalled. Final fitment is then inspected to verify proper bumper alignment, secure mounting, electrical connection routing, and clean overall appearance.
