Toyota Highlander (2020-) Flat 4 Trailer Wiring Installation Overview
Time Commitment: Up to 1 hour
Adding trailer wiring to a Toyota Highlander is more involved than most customers expect because much of the work takes place inside the vehicle, not underneath it.
To access the factory wiring connections, interior trim panels in the rear cargo area and third-row seating area must be carefully removed. The installer accesses the vehicle’s factory wiring connectors, installs a powered converter module, secures the module inside the interior trim area, and connects the system to the vehicle’s grounding point.
From there, the trailer connector is routed through the rear of the vehicle and secured near the hitch receiver for easy trailer access while still maintaining a clean finished appearance.
Once installation is complete, the wiring system is tested to verify proper trailer light operation before all interior panels are reinstalled.
