Honda Odyssey (2018- Present) Flat 4 Trailer Wiring
Time Commitment: Up to 1.5 additional hours to hitch installation time
The Honda Odyssey uses a factory tow plug located behind the driver-side rear interior trim panels, allowing the trailer wiring harness to connect without cutting or splicing into the factory taillight wiring. While this creates a cleaner installation than many vehicles, the process is still more involved than simply plugging in a connector.
To access the factory tow plug and rear fuse panel, several interior cargo-area trim panels must be temporarily removed or loosened. The wiring module is then securely mounted behind the trim panels in a protected location to help prevent rattles, vibration, or damage over time.
In addition to connecting to the factory tow plug, the trailer wiring system also requires proper grounding and fuse activation. Depending on the vehicle configuration, this may require drilling a small pilot hole inside a hidden interior metal surface near the fuse panel area in order to properly secure the ground wire. Required fuses are also installed in the factory-designated fuse panel locations to activate the trailer lighting circuits.
Once the wiring is connected and secured, the 4-flat trailer connector is routed toward the rear cargo area so it can remain hidden and protected when not in use. When towing, the connector can easily be routed outward near the rear hatch for trailer connection.
After installation, the trailer wiring system is tested to verify proper operation before all trim panels and interior components are carefully reinstalled.
The finished installation maintains a clean, factory-style appearance without visible exterior wiring or permanent exterior modifications to the vehicle.
