Honda Odyssey (2018–Present) Hitch Installation Overview
Towing Capacity: 3500 lbs Tongue Weight: 525 lbs
Time Commitment: Up to 1 Hr
Installing a trailer hitch on a 2018–Present Honda Odyssey is more involved than simply bolting a receiver underneath the vehicle. Depending on the trim level and hitch design, underbody panels and heat shields may need to be temporarily removed so the hitch can be positioned correctly against the frame.
This installation uses a combination of factory weld-nut mounting points and additional frame-mounted hardware that must be carefully routed into place inside the frame rails. The passenger side of the hitch is raised over the exhaust first, then the hitch is aligned with the frame rails, secured with vehicle-specific hardware, and torqued to specification.
Before installation, the frame mounting points are inspected and cleaned as needed to help ensure the hardware threads properly and the hitch seats correctly against the vehicle. Once the hitch is installed, any removed heat shields or trim panels are reinstalled as appropriate, and the finished installation is checked for proper fitment and exhaust clearance.
The Odyssey is one of the most popular vehicles for hitch-mounted bike racks and cargo carriers, so proper positioning and ground clearance are especially important to help ensure a clean finished appearance and good accessory fitment.
