Hitch installation on the 2023+ Honda Pilot is a relatively straightforward installation because the vehicle includes factory weldnuts already built into the frame for hitch mounting.
Installation begins by temporarily lowering the spare tire using the factory tools stored inside the vehicle. This provides access to the rear mounting area and allows the hitch to be positioned against the frame rails.
The hitch is then carefully raised into position and aligned with the factory weldnuts located underneath the vehicle. Because of the size and weight of the hitch, the installation typically requires two people to safely hold the hitch in place while the mounting hardware is started.
Once aligned, the hitch is secured using high-grade M14 mounting hardware and conical-toothed washers designed to maintain proper clamping force against the vehicle frame. All hardware is torqued to manufacturer specifications to ensure secure attachment and long-term durability.
After installation, the spare tire is raised back into position and clearance between the tire and hitch is checked to ensure proper fitment and safe operation.
One advantage of the 2023+ Pilot design is that the installation can usually be completed without removing the rear bumper fascia, lowering the exhaust system, or fishwiring hardware through the frame rails. This helps maintain a fast and efficient installation process while still providing a strong frame-mounted hitch solution suitable for towing, bike racks, and cargo carriers.
After installation is complete, the hitch fitment is inspected to verify proper alignment, secure mounting, and adequate spare tire clearance.
