Honda Pilot Trailer Wiring Installation Overview

Trailer wiring installation on the 2023+ Honda Pilot is usually a streamlined process because the vehicle includes a factory wiring connection inside the rear cargo area. This allows the trailer wiring harness to connect directly to the vehicle without removing the taillights or routing a separate power wire underneath the vehicle.
Installation begins by disconnecting the vehicle battery and accessing the driver-side rear cargo storage area beneath the rear floor board. The factory trailer wiring connector is located inside the driver-side storage cubby near the wheel well, where the vehicle-specific harness plugs directly into the factory connection.
The wiring harness is then grounded to a clean, secure grounding point on the vehicle body to help ensure reliable trailer light operation. Because this system uses the Pilot’s factory trailer wiring provisions, the required towing fuses must also be installed in the engine compartment fuse panel. The correct fuse configuration varies by model year, so this step is checked carefully during installation.
Once the harness and fuses are installed, the 4-flat trailer connector is routed to the center of the cargo area. When not in use, the connector stores inside the vehicle, helping protect it from moisture, road debris, and corrosion.
The trailer wiring system is then tested to verify proper operation of:

After testing is complete, the battery is reconnected, all storage panels and cargo floor components are reinstalled, and the 4-flat dust cover is installed to help protect the connector when stored.
