Kia Telluride (2023–Present) Trailer Wiring Installation Overview

On newer Kia Telluride models without the factory tow package, trailer wiring installation requires integrating a powered trailer wiring system into the vehicle’s factory taillight wiring circuits.

To access the factory wiring, both rear taillights must be removed and portions of the rear bumper area accessed so wiring can be safely routed behind the vehicle trim and above the bumper structure. Specialized routing tools are used to guide the wiring harness through tight factory openings while keeping the wiring hidden, protected, and securely fastened away from moving components and road debris.

Unlike older vehicles that often used a simple plug-in connection, newer Tellurides may use different wiring configurations depending on trim level and lighting package. Because of this, the wiring system must be carefully identified and integrated to ensure compatibility and reliable trailer light operation.

A powered converter module is mounted in a protected area inside the vehicle and connected to a dedicated power wire routed directly to the vehicle’s battery. This helps protect the vehicle’s sensitive factory lighting circuits while ensuring the trailer receives consistent power for brake lights, running lights, and turn signals.

Once installation is complete, all wiring is secured and tested using a trailer or dedicated tester before the taillights and trim panels are fully reinstalled.
